LONDON, England — Former teen idol David Cassidy, from the 70’s hit show "The Partridge Family," has some words of wisdom for one of today’s hottest teen stars, Zac Efron.

"All I can say to Zac is that as long as he does good work, doesn’t lose his mind and stays grounded as a human being, he’ll be fine," Cassidy told Britain’s Daily Mail as he was prepping for his U.K. concert tour last week.

"Because it’s only about the talent and never about how many fans or photographers you’ve got outside your home," he continued.

Cassidy cautioned Zac that regardless of the career choices he makes, sometimes there’s no controlling fame and that the "High School Musical" star better prepare himself.

"But he’d better fasten his seatbelt," Cassidy added, "Because it’s going to be a very bumpy ride."

Miley Cyrus is playing coy when it comes to her 20-year-old beau, model Justin Gaston.

"Maybe, maybe not," she said Thursday on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show when asked if they are dating. "Right now, everything is, like, really good. I haven’t really been answering the question much just because we’re just really happy with everything and the way everything has worked out."

She added, "He’s been a really great friend, more than anything."

Cyrus - who turns 16 on Nov. 23 - said she was miffed that "everyone started judging us as soon as we started hanging out.

"After my last two years, there’s been a lot of things that happened, so I’ve learned just not to judge anyone and go into our friendship with an open mind and not really worry about the age or anything," she continued.

"Our families are like, ‘Whatever happens, happens,’" she said. "If he’s nothing but a really good friend, that’s awesome.

"More than anything, he’s really helped me move on from a lot of things," she told Seacrest. "He’s a really great Christian guy. He’s gone through stuff, and I’ve gone through stuff, and everyone goes through that. I think it’s really awesome that we have that in common — that we can talk about it and that we can understand [each other] … he gets it."

She then added: "I’m totally gushing right now!"

She said her parents like him too, adding that the former Nashville Star contestant "works with my dad, so my dad thinks he’s cool."

Seacrest told Cyrus that Gaston is just too good looking.

"That’s what would be hard about dating him!" she replied. "It’s like, if anything ever happened [a break-up], who you are gonna go to after that?"

Nicole Kidman tops Hollywood overpaid list

Nicole Kidman was named the most overpaid celebrity in Hollywood in the second annual list of least bankable stars by U.S. magazine Forbes, taking the top slot from fellow Australian Russell Crowe.

Kidman’s films were estimated to only earn $1 for every dollar the Oscar-winning actress was paid compared with $8 a year ago.

"The Invasion," a remake of the 1956 classic "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," even lost $2.68 for every dollar earned by Kidman who was reportedly paid $17 million for her role.

"Despite winning an Oscar for her performance in 2002’s "The Hours," Kidman has become the most overpaid celebrity in Hollywood," said Forbes, adding that her upcoming movie "Australia" could give her a boost.

Second in the list came Jennifer Garner, whose movies including "The Kingdom" and "Catch and Release" have underperformed at the box office. Her movies were calculated to earn $3.60 for every $1 she was paid.

Kidman’s ex-husband, Tom Cruise, came third in the list with a $4 return for every dollar he was paid, mostly because of the failure of last year’s movie "Lions for Lambs." For every dollar the star earned the film returned only $1.88.

Forbes said the ranking was compiled by looking at a star’s past three movies and dividing their total earnings by the films’ gross income to get the actor’s payback figure.

Making up the top 10 of overpaid Hollywood celebrities were Cameron Diaz, Jim Carrey, Nicolas Cage, Drew Barrymore, Will Ferrell and Cate Blanchett.

The actor whose bankability improved most over the past year was Crowe, who was ranked the most overpaid celebrity last year when Kidman was in second place.

Last year, Forbes estimated the movie "Cinderella Man" earned $5 for every dollar that Crowe was paid.

But this year, he was the 18th best earner on a previously issued list of which actors were worth their paychecks, with a return of $6.88 for every dollar he earned.

This bump was attributed to last year’s movie "American Gangster" with Denzel Washington, for which Crowe returned a healthy $10.80 for every dollar he was paid.

Anne Hathaway: Taking On The Media In The Midst Of Personal Turmoil

Anne Hathaway’s troubles with her ex-boyfriend, Raffaelo Follieri, are well chronicled.

He’s in jail and she was crushed by his deception. The fact that it all happened so publicly is still tough, as Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush found out when he sat down with the star, who is promoting her new film, "Rachel Getting Married," in the face of personal turmoil.

"It’s probably a difficult time in your life to be addressing the media because of what has happened. How are you doing in that department?" Billy asked.

"I’m always very professional and I am not the first person in the world to go through a tough time and have to get their job done," Anne said. "The only difference is when I get my job done I get free hair, makeup and styling, so that helps."

Last week, Anne’s now infamous con man ex, Follieri, pled guilty to 14 counts of wire fraud, conspiracy and money laundering. At his sentencing on October 3, he faces a potential 265 years in prison. But Anne isn’t avoiding interviews.

"It never crossed my mind to do anything less," Anne told Billy. "It never crossed my mind when I was promoting ‘Get Smart’ and it’s not crossing my mind now. I’m trying to be as positive as I can at this point in my life."

Reportedly cooperating with a federal investigation against the man she once loved, Anne had to give up her apartment, as well as, according to the New York Post, an expensive jewelry collection, purchased for her by Follieri.

"Who’s been there for you at this time?" Billy asked.

"I have a great support system, a lot of people that love me," she said. "I’m very lucky."

Anne is also lucky on screen. In "Rachel Getting Married," she breaks away from the type casting she didn’t even know she faced.

"Since I was 18 years old, when the ‘Princess Diaries’ came out, I’ve had people ask me, ‘How are you going to avoid type-casting?’ Probably more because of naivety than anything else, it didn’t occur to me that anyone would try to type-cast a young girl," she told Billy. "It’s funny to be at this moment, to arrive at it, and have people say ‘Wow! You’re really branching out!’ and I’m just like, ‘No I’m still being the same person I always was.’"

And her highly praised dramatic turn has people talking.

"This might be an Oscar vehicle perhaps?" Billy asked.

"I’m 25 years old and people are saying I’ve given a performance that’s worthy of an Oscar nomination," Anne said. "It’s thrilling. I’ve never done work that was considered worthy of that before."

And "Rachel Getting Married" holds a special place in her heart.

"I know you’re not supposed to say this, and I love the other movies that I’ve been a part of so much, but I’m more proud of this one than I ever have been of another one," she added.

Ice sheet breaks loose off Canada

sehes

by: CNN/Environment/World

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — A chunk of ice spreading across 18 square kilometers (7 square miles) has broken off a Canadian ice shelf in the Arctic, scientists said Tuesday.

Derek Mueller, a researcher at Trent University, was careful not to blame global warming but said the event was consistent with the theory that the current Arctic climate isn’t rebuilding ice sheets.

"We’re in a different climate now," he said. "It’s not conducive to regrowing them. It’s a one-way process."

Mueller said the sheet broke away last week from the Ward Hunt Ice Shelf off the north coast of Ellesmere Island in Canada’s far north. He said a crack in the shelf was spotted in 2002, and a survey this spring found a network of fissures. Video Watch the effects of the ice breaking up »

The sheet is the biggest piece shed by one of Canada’s six ice shelves since the Ayles shelf broke loose in 2005 from the coast of Ellesmere, about 500 miles from the North Pole.

Formed by accumulating snow and freezing meltwater, ice shelves are large platforms of thick, ancient sea ice that float on the ocean’s surface. Ellesmere Island was once entirely ringed by a single enormous ice shelf that broke up in the early 1900s. iReport.com: The heat is on in Iceland

At 170 square miles and 130 feet thick, the Ward Hunt shelf is the largest of those remnants. Mueller said it has been steadily declining since the 1930s.

Gary Stern, co-leader of an international research program on sea ice, said it’s the same story all around the Arctic.

Speaking from the Coast Guard icebreaker Amundsen in Canada’s north, Stern said the Ward Hunt breakup is related to what he’s seeing thousands of kilometers away.

He hasn’t seen any ice in weeks. Plans to set up an ice camp in February had to be abandoned when usually dependable ice didn’t form for the second year in a row.

"Nobody on the ship is surprised anymore," Stern said. "We’ve been trying to get the word out for the longest time now that things are happening fast and they’re going to continue to happen fast."

Aussies spend $300m on battle against ageing

Statistics to be released at the annual cosmetic medicine conference today indicate 30 per cent growth in the industry last year.

The Cosmetic Physicians Society of Australasia said the biggest growth was in anti-wrinkle treatments, predominantly botulinum toxin injections.

Botox works by paralysing certain facial muscles and preventing them from contracting for between four and six months, thereby "softening" the appearance of wrinkles.

Also increasingly popular were dermal filler procedures to plump up lips and laser treatments for scarring or hair removal.

It also oversees procedures such as leg vein treatment, hair transplantation and acne treatments, that were either slower growing or stable.

CPSA president Mary Dingley said the non-invasive and minimally invasive area was one of the fastest growing segments in the cosmetic medicine industry.

"The harsh climate in Australia is a major factor as many seek treatments to get rid of wrinkles, skin cancers or sun spots caused by sun damage," Dr Dingley said.

"People are also becoming more aware of treatments, how effective and simple the procedures are, without the need for invasive surgery."

Physicians reported a 10 to 20 per cent increase in male clients last year, with most seeking botox and acne-scarring treatments or facial vein surgery.

The figures will be released at the annual CPSA conference on the Gold Coast, where the latest Australian and US trends in facial and body cosmetic procedures will be showcased.
